The Folgore (Italian "thunderbolt") was an Italian fighter aircraft developed and manufactured by Macchi Aeronautica, in Italy. It was operated mainly by the Regia Aeronautica (RA; Royal (Italian) Air Force) in and around the World War II. Designed by a team lead by Mario Castoldi, it is generally considered the best Italian fighter to operate in large numbers during the conflict. In combat, it very quickly proved itself to be an effective dogfighter against its contemporaries. During its service life, the C.202 was deployed on all fronts in which Italy was involved, from North Africa to the Russian campaign.
The C.202 (or M.C.202) followed the C.200 Saetta moving from a radial engine to an Italian-built version of the German Daimler-Benz DB 601A along with several streamlining improvements on the airframe. The key negative points on the Folgore were the lack of armament and complex construction requiring much more time to produce than say, the BF-109.
The C.205 was the next step, moving to the more powerful DB 605 engine and better armament, this translated into a higher wing loading and slightly different fuselage front. The C.205 was apparently at par with the famed Mustang and Spitfire. Sufficiently so that the Luftwaffe used a number of these aircraft to equip one Gruppe.
This 800mm wingspan rendition is powered by a BR2212 with 1400Kv and is designed to be printed mostly in LW-PLA, with a few key parts in PLA, like the motor mount, spinner, battery and servo tray, propeller blades and hub. The design has carefully planned internal structures for LW-PLA slicing resulting in clean parts without any oozing and unwanted curlies trapped inside.

My designs are always evolving - seeking better techniques and listening to feedback from builders and flight testing. This design explores a very light fuselage concept using 5 lengths of PLA filaments to reunite the fuselage sections together.
With the carefully design inner structures, there is no need to activate the Vase Mode in Simplify3D; the careful design along with judicious positioning and slicer settings will give you clean parts without any unwanted oozing – as long as you print 1 part at a time.
